Marc Chagall - Verve III (the Bible) prints

£ 0.00

Original lithographs, in colours, 1956, on Velin Arches paper, with no margins, from an unsigned and unnumbered edition

Edition: A large edition

References:  Chagall: The Lithographs: Catalogue Raisonee, by Charles Sorlier and Fernand Mourlot: Reference 118-142 ; Cramer (Catalogue Raisonne - Livres Illustres) 25 ;

Note: This was published as a plate in Volume VIII of Verve in 1956. The work contained 30 Original Lithographs. The work illustrated “The Bible” and consisted of scenes from the Old testament. The artist was a religious Jew who looked not for the precise meaning of the texts but read the works himself for their human and poetic sense. No doubt Chagall only depicted what stirred and inspired him. The series is at once colourful, dramatic and inspirational in its concept and figurative content.
