Note: One of the “Founding Fathers” of Cubism Juan Gris occupies an important place in Art History. Like Picasso, NBraque, ad Leger he was supported by the German Gallerist, Daniel Kahnweiller, in Paris. In January, 1921, he began his series of "open window" paintings, and in March worked on four lithographic portraits, among them Marcelle the blond and Marcelle the Brunette which were of similar style. Many of the artists paintings and works have text inserted so these are by no means unusual in having this,.
