The complete set of four lithographs in colours (one a double page in black for the cover), on Arches paper, with text by Philippe Denis, loose (as issued), all contained in the original blue linen-covered portfolio and slipcase.
Size: 12 3/8 x 9 5/8 x 1 1/8 in. (31.4 x 24.4 x 2.9 cm)
Three lithographs signed in pencil, additionally signed by Philippe Denis and numbered '11' on the justification page in black ink (from the edition of 200, there were also 30 in Roman numerals), published by Maeght, Paris.
Note: The evocative poetry in Philippe Denis's first published volume brings to mind many images: "Dark halo,/ rag of this lamp at midnight,/wick of the heart lowered" begins one sparse poem in the volume. Weaving together dark and light imagery, the poet finds a match in Joan Miró, whose work contains multiple layers. The splatter of black ink staining the background lays an impulsive foundation for the tangible, calligraphic marks comprising the rest of the composition. Over and next to these elements we find oblong spots of colour in varying degrees of opacity. Like the mysteries of a heart in love, Miró's print shines with great light and recedes into darkest shadow.
