Henri Matisse - Espagnole au peigne, les yeux baissés


Original Drypoint etching, 1919/1920, on chine appliqué support paper, on velin, signed and numbered ink bottom right, initialled in pencil below left. Written verso: Pl 45 bis and numbered, below left 105080 (Stock number ???)

Note:  Between 1914 and 1920 Matisse made a number of small etchings depicting friends and family. These were all made in small editions and quite hard to find today. Our work shows the subject looking downwards toward the right. Another etching exits (Duthuit 81) showing the same model facing entitled “Jeune femme au peigne Espagnole”
