Medium: Original Etching with Drypoint, 1891, in black on wove paper, signed, by the artist in pencil ‘C Pissarro’, lower right, inscribed 2nd state Number 7 left, Titled by the artist below.

Size: Image size: 176 x 289 mms

Edition: Delteil says that there were three states of this etching and the third state was marked as Second State by the artist and pulled in an edition of only 14 copies. A revision by Jean Cailac is then quoted: This says that there was an intermediate state between the second and third states. consisting or three or four scarce proofs. These proofs were comprised among the fourteen mentioned previously meaning that about 10 exist of our piece.

A further edition was struck by the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, in 1998 in conjunction with the Bibliotheque National, Paris. This consisted of 18 proofs

Note: Pissarro was a “man of the people” with extreme left wing political beliefs and the subject of many of his works are pheasants working on the land. This work shows a bearded man relaxing on a Sunday with two women.
